St Joseph’s College, Lochinvar, founded by the Sisters of St Joseph in 1883, is a co-educational secondary school providing a rich and diverse educational experience for students from Years 7 to 12.
Located on the grounds of the foundation house of the Sisters of St Joseph who arrived from Perthville in 1883, the College maintains a strong connection with the congregation and the Josephite charism. This charism guides us in forming a faith-filled community inspired by justice and service.
St Joseph’s College is committed to the Church’s mission of providing an education based on Gospel values and centred on Jesus Christ. St Joseph’s aspires to be a dynamic, contemporary Catholic school that responds actively to the Gospel message and our Josephite charism, nurturing a culture of service and trust in the providence of God.
Our three pillars of Strength, Faith and Hope guide our strategic direction and provide a cohesive framework for academic, cultural and sporting pursuits, as well as the focus on nurturing positive wellbeing and cultural responsiveness. These pillars also provide the opportunity to utilise an implementation model focused on the following goals – Catholic Identity, Formation, Service, Leadership, Growth Mindset, Successful Learning, Community Partnerships, Innovation, and Career Pathways.
The College has a well-earned reputation for excellent academic results and is highly regarded in the community due to a range of exciting initiatives and opportunities. These included our Flexi-Learning initiative, extensive representative sport opportunities, gifted and accelerated learning programs, dynamic Aboriginal Education and cultural programs, ministry and service initiatives, and an overseas exchange program.
Located in the stunning Hunter Valley in a peaceful, rural setting just 8km from Maitland NSW, St Joseph’s is located in the Chisholm Pastoral region of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.
The College has a blend of heritage and modern buildings which include a Chapel and Heritage Centre, new Administration and Resource Centre, a purpose-built hall and associated Café and Hospitality Hub, as well as a Trade and Technologies Centre. These, together with recently refurbished classrooms, Performance and Creative Arts spaces and a dedicated Aboriginal Education space – the Yalawa Centre, provide the opportunity for students to participate in a contemporary learning model that is agile and capable of responding to the needs of all learners.
Students have access to a variety of outdoor spaces and equipment including basketball courts, volleyball courts, table tennis and an oval that can accommodate a variety of ball sports, together with the MacKillop Centre which caters for a range of indoor sports and activities.
