About St Joseph's Primary School

Ìý

St Joseph's Primary School, Kilaben Bay is a unique school community catering for students (Catholic and non Catholic) from Kindergarten to Year 6 in the Toronto district and surrounding suburbs.

St Joseph's enjoys a proud reputation of high quality learning and teaching and strives to create a collaborative and engaging learning community where all learners are supported and encouraged to achieve their unique potential.

St Joseph’s provides a number of programs designed to enrich the educational opportunities of all members in the school community and also recognises that some students require learning experiences beyond those of their peers. The school offers a STEM program for students to participate in science, technology, engineering and mathematics workshops as well as Tournament of the Minds, public speaking and debating competitions. The school also offers extension opportunities for those students working beyond stage level and we are involved in the Gifted and Talented program. Our whole staff has been involved in Cultures of Thinking to continue to develop learning activities that elicit children’s thinking skills and problem-solving.

Students also have the opportunity to compete at representative level for school, regional, diocesan, state and national competitions in sports including netball, soccer, touch football, tennis, rugby league, rugby union, AFL, hockey, cross country, swimming, athletics and basketball. The school continues to provide opportunities for students to engage in professional skills workshops, participate in a weekly gymnastics program in Term 1, join the dance program or attend the very popular gross motor program, SMASH.

The school’s classrooms are innovative and supportive learning environments that reflect contemporary and differentiated teaching and learning. St Joseph’s embraces learning technologies as tools of the digital age and encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning. The modern school hall contains a performance stage and audio visual features and the school also has a technology lab with 30 student computers, a well-resourced library, SMART Boards with built-in audio visual capacity, wireless broadband connectivity and banks of classroom laptops, computers and iPads. Our Stage 3 students are involved in BYOD for a portion of their learning activities.

The school has a strong commitment to social justice and was recently acknowledged and commended by Catholic Mission as the highest fundraising school nationally. The students of St Joseph’s have a very special relationship with the residents of the local aged care centre and during their regular visits enjoy the opportunity to perform and entertain the elderly residents.
