How AI is influencing new online risks for children and young people

Wednesday 3 June, 12.30pm- 1.15pm听

AI (generative artificial intelligence) is built into many of the apps, games and services we use. While these tools can offer positive experiences, they also bring new risks, especially for children and young people.
Understanding what these risks look like, how to reduce them, and what to do if something goes wrong is important for anyone supporting children and young people.

This 45-minute webinar for parents and carers will cover these areas:

  • The types of AI-related risks your child may come across in their everyday online activities, including AI companion chatbots, deepfakes, AI influencers, and AI-facilitated cyberbullying and other online-harassment related risks.
  • How these technologies can affect your child鈥檚 safety, privacy, development, and mental and social wellbeing.
  • Practical, easy-to-use strategies and resources to help you guide and support your child, including what to do if something goes wrong and where to seek help.

Suitable for parents and carers of young people in primary and secondary school.

Wednesday 3 June, 7.00pm-8.00pm听

As parents and carers, we all want to support our children as they grow, from the early years through to adolescence. But when big feelings show up as big behaviour, it can be hard to know what to do in the moment, no matter your child鈥檚 age.

In this warm and practical听webinar, parenting expert,听author听and presenter Karen Young will help you make sense of what is going on beneath your child鈥檚 behaviour and offer simple, realistic ways to respond that build connection and emotional strength over time.

Designed for parents and carers of both primary-aged children and teenagers, this session recognises that while children and teens express emotions differently, their need for understanding, safety and connection听remains听the same. You will gain insights and strategies that can be adapted to suit your child at听different stages听of development.

Together, we will explore:

  • why big feelings happen and what they are telling us across childhood and adolescence
  • how children and teens rely on trusted adults during emotional moments
  • practical ways to respond to challenging behaviour with calm and clarity at different ages
  • how to set boundaries in ways that strengthen relationships
  • what helps children and young people build their emotional skills over time
  • how to reconnect after difficult moments, including as children grow older and more independent

You will also be encouraged to reflect on your own role as a steady, reassuring presence in your child鈥檚 life, whether you are supporting a younger child or navigating the complexity of the teenage years.

This session is about supporting, not perfecting. You will leave with a deeper understanding of your child at any age, along with simple strategies you can use straight away to support their wellbeing and your relationship.
